Welcome to the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women

Lawyers Association Upon Our Legacy of Developing the Whole Lawyer: Heart, Mind, Body & Soul!

This is the time of year that hopefully affords us a chance to experience gratitude on some level whether great or small.

Mother’s Day, Ramadan, the last day of school, graduations, weddings, baby showers, family vacations, BBQs and so on are all quite spectacular occasions. At first glance you may think this list is wildly varied – and maybe creates some awkward comparisons.  Upon deeper reflection, the truth of the matter is it is all about the opportunities we have to reflect on our blessings.  It is not so much about what we may not have (yet) or may not have achieved, but rather about finding the good in our current circumstances.

For the overall good of the order, take some time between the court hearings, mediations, real estate closings, tax alerts, speaking engagements, doctors’ appointments, board meetings, grocery store runs, yard work and the like to think about the little and not so little things that bring you peace and real joy.  Work on doing or experiencing those things more often.

GSCBWLA is doing similarly. We are excited about our participation in the 5th Annual MDCPS Law Initiative at St. Thomas University School of Law on May 18th.  Helping to sow seeds of interest in the legal profession and law-related careers in the lives of elementary, middle and high school students takes us to a happy place.  On May 19th, join our final Rainmakers Academy session to get some lasting nuggets of wisdom on how you can advance your practice. Relish the rare chances we have to reflect on how we might improve even on a good thing! On May 24th, join us and MDFAWL to screen “RBG”, the award-winning film on the consequential life and legal legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  For sure it will be a fab mid-week GNO! On May 29th, you can find us supporting the Brownsville Law Academy’s Grand Opening at Brownsville Middle School – yet another opening to serve.

Tickets are also on sale now for the GSCBWLA Installation & Awards program on June 28th.  You do not want to miss this round-up! We’ll have some very special honorees and time to again reflect with gratitude on the year gone by.

All of these offerings and more give us chances to share some of the best things about the legal profession: the opportunity to engage with and help others; avenues to mentor the next generation; and occasions to be inspired by the community service.

Come on out and join us in taking some time to be grateful by doing!

In Service,

Nikki Lewis Simon
